"ROUND-A-BOUT" in OCEAN SHORES

The City has received a grant to install a roundabout to replace the four-way stop intersection at Point Brown and Chance a La Mer. We don't - see many roundabouts in the West.

For those of you who have lived on the East Coast or in the South, roundabouts are fairly common. This witI. be all new to us Westerners.

The roundabout will probably not be going in for another year. That gives us plenty of time to figure out how these things work!

It seems that when things are busy here it is confusing enough as 4 cars approach the intersection and no one really knows who should proceed through first. Everyone stops and looks at each other then, inevitably two cars start through at the same time.

It's going to be interesting to see how we handle merging in and out of the roundabout!

The road to success is always "under construction"

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE

It looks like it's going to be a record breaking winter for Ocean Shores! Lots of rain and some pretty darn good wind!

On the weekend of December 16 and 17, Mother Nature delivered a storm to us that included lots of water and wind gusts up to 75 MPH.

Needless to say, there were lots of trees blown over and on to things, some roof damage on some homes and lots of yard items ending up down the street.

We lost power in Ocean Shores. The length of time we had to go without power varied depending upon where you live on the peninsula. Some people were without power for up to twenty hours.

We have continued to get smaller rain storms. They seem smaller compared to the December storm, but it's been pretty wet and pretty windy.

SOMETHING NEW

This past July something new came to Ocean Shores....a Half-Iron Triathlon. This is a 1.2 mite swim, a 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run.

The events took place over a two day weekend. The weather was perfect and the participants had very positive things to say about holding the event in Ocean Shores.

The event was hosted by TriFreak. This is a triathlon company that stages triathlons all over the country. It's great they've discovered us! Maybe this will become an annual event.

REAL ESTATE YEAR IN REVIEW

The real estate market has been slow all over the country. That includes Ocean Shores as well.

The numbers took like this:

2006
2005
Homes sold:
236
283
Lots sold:
378
770
Permits issued for homes:
184
225

The "experts" are saying that 2007 should see an Increase in real estate sales.

Ocean Shores is not the "typical" real estate market. The market here is primarily second homes and retirement homes. This makes it difficult to predict what this coming year will took like with any certainty.

As you can see from the numbers, things are selling, just not as quickly or as many as previous years.

If you want to sell, put your property on the market. It definitely will not sell if people don't know it's for sale.

FREE MARKET ANALYSIS

If you are thinking about selling your property or home, we will be happy to do a Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) for you at absolutely no charge. Also, if you are thinking of purchasing, we have some wonderful properties available.

THE POLITICAL SCENE

Ocean Shores may be adding two more council seats to the City Council. The State requires that once a city reaches a population of 5,000, the Council must have 7 elected members.

Ocean Shores currently has 5 council members. It has not yet been determined that we have reached a population of 5,000, but it is estimated that we are awfully close to that number.

The City can add the 2 additiona! seats prior to reaching the 5,000 population mark. But once we hit that number, the 2 additional seats are mandatory.

AN OCEAN SHORES PEARL

By June of 1963, 165 homes had been built in Ocean Shores.

A volunteer fire department was formed and a brand new fire engine was purchased.

Police protection was provided by the Ocean Shores security guards who were paid by Ocean Shores Estates, Inc., the developers.
